Blossom-Thyme Dairy Goats began in 1994 when we
purchased two Nubian kids, a doe (Buttercup) and a wether (Pepsi). They were not bought with the intention of showing, but
rather for brush control and companionship for a lonely horse.
In the fall of 2004 Kayla joined a 4-H club. The club's leader Lisa Gardner(Whisper'N'Pines),
a well known breeder of Toggenburgs, was an inspiration to her, and that's how our story began.
Kayla purchased her first Toggenburg doe in the summer of 1995 and, although she was bred by
a fellow club member, she contained Whisper'N'Pines bloodlines. Fuchsia, a "Jaguar" daughter, earned her GCH and a
LA score of 90, and served as Kayla's showmanship doe for 9 years. They attended several ADGA Nationals along
the way, placing 2nd as a team in Iowa in 2003. Fuchsia was retired in the Fall of 2005 and is happy just hanging out, perfecting
her role as herd Queen. She will be 13 years old in the spring of 2008. Kayla sold her remaining togg herd in the
fall of 2005, and is currently attending the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau.
Kim joined in and took over the Nubian herd after Kayla switched to theToggs. When the show
string grew larger, I (Judy) joined in(in whites), and was hooked. However, as with many herds the kids(2 legged) grow
up, and move on. Kim has since graduated from high school and Gene Juarez Academy. She is now married and now spends her
time with her husband, Keith, in the cow barns(where they met) helping show and care for their herd of Milking Shorthorns,
"Rosecrest Farms." You may, however, still find her helping show our Nubian herd, if she isn't busy in the
ring with the Shorthorns(at least they both wear whites for show). They are also expecting their own new little
handler at the end of March 2008.
As I said before, I am hooked and will continue on showing the herd; joining the "moms without kids
club,"(I know I'm not alone). I enjoy the time, however, when Kayla and/or Kim are able to come and help
at home and at the shows.
Our Nubian bloodlines consist mainly of Whisper'N'Pines, Lassenwood, Brown Sugar's
Crown Ambassador, Ladies-Blue, with some influence of Patch Quilt Farms. We have a new addition to our herd this
fall, "Lassenwood Miller Ozzie," a buck we feel he will cross nicely with our Zen and Formal daughters.
We recently have shared bucks back and forth with Pat Lantz/Mark Baden of Remuda, which has resulted
in the addition of some Copper-Hill and Wingwood to our lines. These crosses have resulted in promising young stock for
both herds as they produced the 2007 National Res. Jr Champion, sired by our buck "Zen", as well as the 2007 National
1st place Int. kid sired by "Alessandro," a buck Remuda leased. These crosses have also produced several other
top 10 placings as well. This combined effort made it possible for our Sr. herdsire "+*B SG Lassenwood Zhivago Zen
to earn Premier Sire at the 2007 ADGA Nationals.
We have participated in DHIR and Linear Appraisal programs since 1998. We also maintain a strong CAE prevention
program and CAE negative herd, testing annually through WSU. Our kids are pulled from their dams at birth and are fed heat
treated colostrum and pasturized milk.
A very special thank you to Gayle Lawrie and Lisa Gardner-Chen of
Whisper'N'Pines for their help and years of breeding and show ring experience. We do not feel we could
have reached the level of success we have so quickly without their guidance.
